I Started Using This Everyday Herb in a New Way… Here’s Why It Became Part of My Weekly Routine

Sofia Rossi

For years, I thought rosemary belonged only in the kitchen. I’d sprinkle it over roasted potatoes or add a few sprigs to soups without giving it another thought. Then one evening, a neighbor shared a simple homemade rosemary oil she’d been making for years.

I was curious enough to try it.

Not because I expected dramatic results, but because I enjoy simple, affordable self-care routines that don’t require a trip to the store.

After a few weeks, I found myself looking forward to this little ritual. The fresh herbal aroma, the relaxing massage, and the few quiet minutes I spent caring for my skin became one of my favorite parts of the week.

Why Rosemary Has Been Loved for Generations

Rosemary has been used in cooking and traditional herbal practices for hundreds of years. Its fresh, woodsy scent is instantly recognizable, and it’s packed with naturally occurring plant compounds that have made it one of the world’s most popular culinary herbs.

For me, the greatest benefit wasn’t discovering a “miracle” ingredient—it was creating a relaxing routine that encouraged me to slow down and take care of myself.

Sometimes that’s exactly what our bodies need after a long day.

My Homemade Rosemary Oil

You’ll need:

  • 3–4 fresh rosemary sprigs (or 2 tablespoons dried rosemary)
  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil

Place the rosemary and olive oil in a small saucepan over very low heat for about 20 minutes. Don’t let the oil boil.

Remove it from the heat and allow it to cool completely before straining into a clean glass bottle.

How I Use It

In the evening, I warm a few drops between my hands and gently massage it into areas that tend to feel dry or tired, such as my hands, legs, feet, shoulders, or neck.

Sometimes I also massage a small amount into my scalp before washing my hair, simply because I enjoy the fresh scent.

The massage itself has become one of my favorite parts of the routine.

The Habits That Made the Biggest Difference

Over time, I realized this homemade oil worked best alongside other simple habits:

  • Taking a walk every day.
  • Eating plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables.
  • Drinking enough water.
  • Stretching after long periods of sitting.
  • Getting enough restful sleep.

Those small choices have done far more for my overall well-being than chasing quick fixes ever did.

Today, this homemade rosemary oil remains one of the simplest traditions in my home. It’s inexpensive, easy to prepare, and gives me a few peaceful minutes to unwind while caring for my skin. Sometimes the best wellness routines aren’t the most complicated—they’re the ones you actually enjoy enough to keep doing.
