I Started Making This Simple Homemade Face Cream… Here’s Why It’s Still My Favorite

Robert Hayes

For years, I believed healthy-looking skin came from expensive creams with long ingredient lists. My bathroom shelf was filled with products that promised dramatic results, yet none of them became a routine I truly enjoyed.

Then I remembered something my grandmother used to say: “Some of the best skincare starts in the kitchen.”

Curious, I tried one of her favorite homemade recipes. It was simple, inexpensive, and took only a few minutes to prepare. I wasn’t expecting miracles, but after using it consistently, my skin felt softer, looked more hydrated, and developed a healthy-looking glow that I hadn’t noticed in a long time.

More importantly, I actually looked forward to my evening skincare routine.

Why Potatoes Have Been Used in Homemade Beauty Recipes

Potatoes are naturally rich in water and contain vitamin C and other naturally occurring plant compounds. Combined with nourishing ingredients, they create a creamy face mask that leaves the skin feeling refreshed and moisturized.

For me, the biggest benefit wasn’t one special ingredient—it was taking ten quiet minutes each week to care for my skin.

Those small moments quickly became something I genuinely enjoyed.

My Homemade Potato Face Cream

You’ll need:

  • 1 small cooked potato (peeled)
  • 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Mash the potato until completely smooth. Add the yogurt, honey, and olive oil, then mix until you have a creamy consistency.

Apply a thin layer to clean skin, avoiding the eyes.

Leave it on for about 15–20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and gently patting your skin dry.

I usually prepare a fresh batch each time and use it once or twice a week.

The Habits That Made the Biggest Difference

Along with this simple skincare routine, I also try to:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Eat colorful fruits and vegetables.
  • Get enough restful sleep.
  • Wear sunscreen whenever I’m outdoors.
  • Cleanse my face gently without over-scrubbing.

I’ve found that these everyday habits have made just as much difference as anything I apply to my skin.

Today, this homemade potato cream is still one of my favorite self-care rituals. It’s affordable, easy to make, and gives me an excuse to slow down for a few relaxing minutes each week. While no homemade recipe can erase wrinkles overnight, caring for your skin consistently can leave it feeling softer, smoother, and beautifully refreshed over time.
