I Started Eating Garlic Every Day… Here’s Why I Still Haven’t Stopped

Sofia Rossi

For years, I overlooked one of the simplest ingredients in my kitchen: garlic. I used it in recipes now and then, but I never imagined it would become part of my daily routine.

One day, I decided to start adding a small amount of fresh garlic to my meals every day. I wasn’t looking for a miracle—I simply wanted to make healthier choices with the foods I was already eating. Before long, I realized this small habit was one of the easiest ones to stick with.

My Daily Garlic Habit

I usually eat:

  • 1 fresh garlic clove, finely chopped or crushed
  • Added to salads, soups, roasted vegetables, or whole-grain toast with olive oil

After crushing the garlic, I let it sit for about 10 minutes before eating it. Then I mix it into my meal instead of eating it by itself.

What I Personally Noticed

Within a few weeks, I felt more motivated to keep making healthy choices throughout the day. Preparing fresh meals became easier, and I found myself relying less on heavily processed foods because I enjoyed cooking with simple ingredients.

Garlic’s bold flavor made vegetables, beans, grilled chicken, and homemade soups much more satisfying, helping me build meals I genuinely looked forward to eating.

Why I Still Keep This Habit

Garlic has been a staple in kitchens around the world for centuries. It’s packed with natural plant compounds and adds incredible flavor without the need for extra salt or rich sauces.

For me, the biggest benefit wasn’t just the garlic itself—it was the routine it inspired. One healthy choice naturally led to another.

The Other Habits That Made a Difference

Alongside my daily garlic habit, I also try to:

  • Fill half my plate with colorful vegetables.
  • Choose whole grains more often.
  • Stay active with a daily walk.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Get consistent, restful sleep.

Those simple habits have become the foundation of my wellness routine.

Today, I still reach for fresh garlic almost every day. It’s affordable, easy to use, and brings so much flavor to everyday meals. While no single ingredient can transform your health overnight, I’ve found that small, consistent habits—starting with something as simple as adding garlic to my meals—can make healthy living feel both enjoyable and sustainable.
