For 14 seasons, one tradition mattered almost as much as the police cases on Blue Bloods: Sunday dinner at the Reagan family table.
Frank, Henry, Danny, Erin, Jamie and the rest of the family gathered around that table week after week, turning a CBS police drama into something that felt surprisingly personal to millions of viewers.
When Blue Bloods aired its final episode in December 2024, those dinners appeared to be over for good.
But the Reagan family hasn’t disappeared.
In fact, a brand-new photo from the set of Boston Blue has fans wondering whether another familiar face could be joining the growing reunion.
Vanessa Ray just visited the ‘Boston Blue’ set
On September 1, Vanessa Ray — who played Eddie Janko-Reagan on Blue Bloods — shared photos and video from a visit to the Boston Blue Season 2 set.
One showed Ray alongside Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green.
Her caption included the intriguing words “got to meet new family,” referring to the Boston Blue cast. (TV Insider)
For Blue Bloods viewers, seeing Eddie with Danny Reagan again was enough to get people talking.
Could Eddie be coming to Boston?
For now, there’s an important distinction: Ray’s appearance has not been confirmed as a Season 2 cameo. She was photographed in ordinary clothes rather than Eddie’s costume, and current reporting indicates she was visiting the set rather than filming a scene. (TV Insider)
But there’s another reason fans are getting excited.
Jamie Reagan IS officially coming back
Unlike Eddie, Jamie Reagan’s return is confirmed.
Will Estes was spotted on the Boston Blue set in August, and Wahlberg subsequently shared a photo welcoming his television brother back.
“Welcome (back) to the Family! Jamie Reagan!” Wahlberg wrote. (Us)
Estes will reprise the role he played throughout all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods.
That alone makes Season 2 something of a family reunion.
Jamie and Danny were two of Frank Reagan’s sons, and their complicated but deeply loyal relationship was central to the original series.
Now viewers will finally see the brothers together again.
The Reagan family has already been quietly reassembling
The most interesting thing about Boston Blue is that Jamie isn’t actually the first familiar Reagan to return.
Donnie Wahlberg leads Boston Blue as Danny Reagan, who relocated from New York to Boston.
But other members of his old television family have already followed him into the spinoff.
Bridget Moynahan returned as Erin Reagan, Len Cariou appeared as family patriarch Henry Reagan, and Will Hochman reprised his role as Joe Hill during Season 1. Marisa Ramirez also returned as Danny’s longtime partner Maria Baez. (TV Insider)
Now Jamie is joining them.
Suddenly, the end of Blue Bloods doesn’t feel quite as final as it once did.
And Jamie and Eddie’s family has grown
There’s another detail longtime viewers will love.
During the Blue Bloods finale, Jamie and Eddie revealed that they were expecting their first child.
Boston Blue subsequently continued their story even though neither character appeared during Season 1.
The spinoff revealed that Jamie and Eddie welcomed a baby boy named Joe Francis Reagan, honoring Jamie and Danny’s late brother Joe. (TV Insider)
That immediately created a question fans have been asking:
Could viewers eventually see Jamie, Eddie and their baby together?
With Jamie now officially returning and Vanessa Ray visiting the set, that possibility feels more tantalizing than ever — although, again, CBS has not announced an Eddie cameo at this point.
Why those Reagan dinners mattered so much
Blue Bloods premiered in 2010 and ran for 14 seasons.
Tom Selleck anchored the series as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, but the show was always about more than police work.
Every Reagan represented a different part of law enforcement and public service.
Danny was a detective. Erin became an assistant district attorney. Jamie was an NYPD officer. Frank served as police commissioner. Henry had held the same position before him.
They disagreed constantly.
But eventually, everyone came back to the dinner table.
Those scenes became so beloved that many viewers considered them the emotional heart of the entire series.
That’s why even a simple photograph of several former cast members together can produce such a powerful reaction.
It looks like family.
What about Tom Selleck?
Of course, there’s still one Reagan whose return would truly make fans lose their minds.
Frank Reagan.
Tom Selleck hasn’t been announced for Boston Blue Season 2.
But the spinoff has made a point of keeping the Reagan family alive even when individual characters aren’t physically present.

And producers have previously expressed interest in continuing to bring familiar Reagans into the new series when the story allows it. (TV Insider)
So while viewers shouldn’t assume Frank is returning, the door to the wider Blue Bloods universe clearly remains open.
‘Boston Blue’ Season 2 is bringing even more family back
Season 2 premieres Friday, October 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, with streaming on Paramount+. (Paramount Press Express)
The premiere, titled “The Crash,” will put Danny and Lena on the trail of a killer whose crimes mirror the infamous Boston Strangler murders.
And there’s another surprise for Reagan fans: CBS’s official synopsis confirms that Henry Reagan will also appear in the Season 2 premiere, joining the investigation alongside Danny, Sean and Jonah. (Paramount Press Express)
So the family connections aren’t slowing down.
They’re growing.
From one family table to another
When Blue Bloods ended, viewers lost a television family they had visited every week for nearly a decade and a half.
But Boston Blue has found an interesting way to keep that family alive without simply recreating the old show.
Danny is still there.
Erin has returned.
Henry has returned.
Joe Hill has returned.
Jamie is officially next.
And now Vanessa Ray has been photographed visiting the set.
Does that mean Eddie Reagan is definitely coming back? Not yet.
But after everything that’s happened so far, fans have good reason to keep watching.
